Q&A with Aaron Finch | Saturday Cricket Club

Q&A with Aaron Finch | Saturday Cricket Club

Aussie cricketer and Gray-Nicolls Ambassador Aaron Finch takes a moment to answer some of our questions in this Q&A for the Saturday Cricket Club.

  • What are you listening to at the moment?
I have been listening to a lot of the recent Howie Games podcasts and “In Depth with Graham Bensinger” podcasts.

  • What's the last show you binge watched?
Ozark. It took a while to get into it, but after Season 1 I was absolutely hooked.

  • Which is your favourite city in the world that you haven't played cricket in?
New York! It’s obviously not ideal at the moment but only having been there once, I can't wait to go back.

  • What's your favourite piece of art in your home? (Please provide a picture!)
These 2 pieces we’ve had for a while and just love them. We weren’t looking for something like this in particular but when we saw them for the first time we just had to get them.

  • What's a piece of advice you were given that's stuck with you?
Be true to yourself. You can't please everyone and if you just go along with the crowd when you don’t believe in something, you'll never be committed.

  • Is there any advice you've been given that you wish you could unlearn?
You get plenty of advice being a professional cricketer, but having the ability to filter it and know what’s good for you is important. I wouldn’t say any one piece that I’d like to forget, you just have to have good people around you and know where to turn for advice.

  • What's a guilty pleasure of yours?
    Pizza, that’s a real weakness!

  • What's your favourite meal to cook?
I love cooking, lockdown in Victoria has been very good for that. Probably my one real “go-to” is crispy salmon with vegetables. I am very proud of my roast potatoes though.

  • What's your least favourite food?
I don’t have too many. I will give anything a try at least once. Getting to travel the world and eat so many foods from different cultures is amazing.

  • If your consciousness could exist in the body of another person for a day, whose body would you choose?
I think I’d choose Christiano Ronaldo. To be at the top of the world game for so long and to see his dedication and skill would be awesome.

  • What's your all-time favourite sport movie?
I love Happy Gilmore but that’s not a serious sports movie, is it? Remember the Titans is a classic that you can watch anytime and there are so many lessons we can all learn from it.

  • What's the most recent thing that you failed at?
For the life of me, I can’t get my sweet potato fries right. I’ve tried so many different ways but can’t nail them. Please send through advice....
(Editor’s note: Try soaking your sweet potatoes in hot water first. Hope that helps, Finchy.)

  • What do you think your life will look like 5 years from now?
It’s a great question, it makes me very nervous thinking about it sometimes. I’d love to still be playing but I think if that’s the case it’ll most likely be T20.
